Introduction

In Puerto Cabello, a city at the north of Venezuela more precisely on the coasts of Carabobo State, is located the most important seaport of the country. There, the Shelter Group of the National Guard is responsible for the supervision and safety of all the activities that takes place at the docks.

Challenges

The purpose of the security team was to support, control and surveillance through high-definition IP cameras to control a critical and extensive area of high turnover loading and unloading of containers.

Thus, the first idea was to link and support the traffic generated by the IP cameras, with a strong network of computers connected wirelessly.

After analyzing the size and geographical particularities of the port area, the engineer Edward Ferreira, integrator in charge of the project, recommended installing ten IP surveillance cameras 3-megapixel to monitor spaces between 1.5 and 2 km away from the control headquarters.

Solution

Because of the distances to be covered and the large number of high resolution images that would be transmitted, the project manager installed a set of AirLive CPE wireless outdoor headed by AirMax DUO located in a repeater tower.

Besides, the radios 1 were linked with another AirMax DUO located in the center, using antennas WAE-5023 at the repeater side and WAE-5018 at repeater main node. Meanwhile, the radios 2 were linked by antennas hyperlink 90° and 17dBi with 7 AirMax 5N-ESD connected via Ethernet to the cameras and placed at the top of the lighting towers that have a height of 22 and 32 meters.

The integrator also included a WHA-5500CPE with a 90° 17 dBi sector antenna to link with AirMax 5N-ESD corresponding to 2 cameras in another location. Through the AirMax DUO were managed 8 cameras and two through 5500.

After the tests, the results were absolutely satisfactory. The AirLive wireless CPEs fulfilled the expectations and requirements of the customer, supporting without any problems the whole IP surveillance system.
